A word from the General Manager

I came to the shelter feeling completely overwhelmed and lost. I didn't expect anything else out of life and I simply wanted to die. Seven months later, I left that house, proud and confident in who I had become. I am now better equipped to deal with life's daily challenges and am able to embrace what life has to offer. As a result, I will be returning to University next month. I certainly would not have made it this far without their help. Thank you for believing in me!

EWhen you read the above quote, I’m sure that you’ll quickly understand why I work so hard alongside our board, our spokesperson Jean Doré and my entire team on behalf of young people. We all want to do our part in increasing public awareness of the Auberges du coeur and ensure their financial independence. We do so because we want our actions to change Quebec’s social landscape, so that all young people come to understand that they have a place in our society and an important role to play.

Our determination, combined with the support of countless volunteers from the business community and the help of shelter managers and youth workers, has paid off. The Foundation’s visibility and awareness among the general public are increasing day by day as a result of our efforts. In addition, our corporate fundraising campaigns and our various events, such as the Restos du Cœur, Desjardins golf tournament, Opération Tirelires and the D’Amour et de cœur concert, are providing us with the opportunity to showcase the important work of the Auberges du cœur.

While there is now greater sympathy for the Auberges du coeur cause, the Foundation nevertheless needs the renewed support of those who have the power and the means to institute change. We call upon all individuals, groups and businesses to show solidarity with young people experiencing difficulties.

Every year, our shelters welcome over 3,500 troubled young people. The needs of these teenagers, young adults and others like them, who have been abandoned, are great. These young people are Quebec’s hidden treasures and we must tap into this resource for the good of our community.

We all know a troubled young person, whether it’s a nephew, a friend’s daughter or maybe even your own son. As the saying goes, we are a close-knit community. Why not prove it by joining us in ensuring the well-being of our youth, since we are all responsible for the fate of our children. Don’t we want the best for the next generation? Our contribution to the cause of the thousands of young people who come to our shelters every year also demonstrates our solidarity as parents and citizens.

That’s why it is important to support the Auberges du cœur, because not only do they offer food and board but they also provide youth with the support they need to address their material, emotional, social and physiological needs. The Auberges du cœur youth workers aim at rebuilding a social support network around young people (family, friends, the community), in order to lead them toward greater autonomy.

The Auberges du cœur have established social integration enterprises, work and training platforms, social housing (supervised apartments) and post-stay follow-up. These services help us to work with these young people on all the facets of their lives, so that they can become active, full-fledged members of society once again.

When compared to state intervention, the support given to these troubled youth by the Auberges du cœur is considerably lower. That’s why the Auberges du cœur Foundation is focusing its energy on getting everyone on board, so that our shelters can gain recognition for the major role they play in our society and obtain greater visibility among the public, the media and other organizations working to improve the well-being of troubled youth.

Your support is no doubt proof of your tremendous heartfelt sympathy and sensitivity to our cause. It encourages us to go the distance so that Évelyne, Benoît and Manuela can make it through after getting the help they need from the Auberges du cœur.

I invite you to visit our Website, which we hope will convince you that ours is a just cause and provide you with the answers to any questions you may have.

Enjoy your visit!
