A brief history of the Auberges du cœur Foundation

Strength in numbers!

It's been thirty years already since the first Auberges du cœur opened its doors. Since then, many other shelters for troubled and homeless youth have adopted the "Auberges du cœur" name. Recognizing the need to come together under a single banner, the Regroupement des Auberges du cœur was created.

Since its inception in 1990, the Auberges du cœur Foundation has devoted its efforts to organizing fundraising activities in support of the shelters, and most recently, to raising its visibility. It has since been conducting ongoing promotional work among the media and various other groups, as well as developing consensus-generating projects to raise funds for the Auberges du cœur. It does so because the expertise and services they provide warrants our support and encouragement. It is in the interest of the future of our youth and well-being of our community.

Stellar growth for the Foundation

In 2000, the Foundation underwent a period of renewal with the arrival of new leadership and a new generation of experienced board members, who served to revitalize the institution.

The awareness and credibility of the Foundation grew steadily among business people, the government, the media and, most notably, the general public. Like the young adults it represents, the Foundation now had the drive and self-possession it needed to meet the challenges ahead, facing the future with confidence and determination.

Since 2001, the Auberges du cœur Foundation has significantly increased its annual revenues, going from $60,000 to $1,350,000 in 2007. This achievement is due to the support of seasoned business people who agreed to take on the cause of homeless and troubled youth. We would also like to acknowledge the noteworthy participation of Alban D'Amours, former President and CEO of Mouvement des caisses Desjardins, and Pierre Moran, Senior Vice-President, Consumer Market Group, Fédération des caisses Desjardins and secretary of the Foundation board, and thank them for their commitment and dedication to our cause.
